WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT TO RECEIVE?

DR. BRUNO IS AN EXPERT PROVIDING THE KNOW-HOW YOU NEED.   AND SHE ALSO PROVIDES THE “KNOW WHAT” YOU NEED TO KNOW AND THE “KNOW WHERE” TO GO TO GET IT.

HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES:

a. EXCERPT FROM  JOB SEARCH – RESUME BUILDING:

THE NEXT STEP IS TO DEVELOP AN UPDATED GENERIC RESUME AND START YOUR JOB SEARCH.  YOU MAY DRAW FROM THIS GENERIC VERSION TO DEVELOP SPECIFIC RESUMES WHEN APPLYING FOR SPECIFIC JOBS – INCLUDING THOSE ACCOMPLISHMENTS THAT SHOW WHAT A GOOD MATCH YOU ARE FOR THE ANNOUNCED POSITION.

BASIC RESUME, JOB SEARCH, AND INTERVIEW RULES:
1. USE SIMPLE FONTS, NOT UNDERLINES OR BOLDS, AS MOST RESUMES ARE SCANNED TODAY.
2. PUT YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION AT THE TOP OF THE PAGE
3. USE “KEY WORDS” THAT A COMPUTER PROGRAM WILL RECOGNIZE.
4. CHOOSE A FORMAT FOR YOUR RESUME:  CHRONOLOGICAL (Education, Work Experience, Licenses/certifications,
Honors/Volunteer work, Publications); or a FUNCTIONAL FORMAT (list  qualifications  and experience in groups).
5. INCLUDE YOUR STRONGEST SKILLS IN THE TOP HALF OF THE FIRST PAGE  (which is all that most employers read).
6. USE ACTION VERBS
7. PREPARE A GENERIC COVER LETTER TO ADAPT TO EACH JOB APPLICATION, REFERENCING
     THE POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT NUMBER, ETC.
8. PRACTICE INTERVIEW QUESTIONS DRAWING FROM ACHIEVEMENTS LISTED IN THE RESUME

c.  PLANNING FOR YOUR PERSONAL FINANCIAL SECURITY:
        1.  Existing debt? Pay it down, consolidate, negotiate lower interest rates
        2. Savings?  Step up your savings to 10-20% of income; use all tax-saving vehicles
        3. Diversified?  Place your savings in diversified instruments – e.g. mutual fund index
        4. Insurance?  Boomers should all have health, life, and long term care insurance
        5. BOTTOM LINE:  HOW BIG IS YOUR NEST EGG and HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?
                • Social Security provides only 1/3 of the average employee’s highest salary.  You must
take responsibility for yourself to make up the difference, or live below your current lifestyle.
                • The 401K = pre-tax dollars = government incentive to boost retirement savings
= 5% matched by employer = employer’s incentive in lieu of paying pensions
Yet few employees contribute at all to their 401K
Others contribute less than the permitted maximum (which includes “catch up” contributions
                    for Boomers).
                • Calculate how big a nest egg you need by using free calculator:  www.aarp.org/finance
RULE OF THUMB:  Retirement needs = est. 20 times your last annual salary
To save this, you would have needed to put away 15% of your salary for 40 years.
If you didn’t start saving until later, the percentage goes up.
        6.  EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED:  Job, Marriage, Health, Investment climate, Family support.
You can’t rely on Social Security.   You can only rely on your Personal Security plan.
